SUNDAY OF OLAJUMOKE; WHEN BREAD-SELLER BECOMES BREAD-WINNER
By FEMI AKINTUNDE-JOHNSON:
Fate sometimes can be cruel in an amusing way – to a point where the recipient of the cruel twist of fate will be the only one not amused about the naked dance of fortune. Such is the peculiar good luck of Sunday Orisagunna, the sliding-door installer of Iree (Osun State) whose wife and mother of his son and daughter has suddenly become a public sensation!
There is a scramble of sorts to change the circumstances of Olajumoke in the wake of her fortuitous flash-crashing on the ThisDay photoshoot of British rapper, Tinie Tempah (whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu) mid January this year.
After she was unraveled as potential model, and photogenic to boot, the lithe hawker has her future bejewelled with mounting loads of benefits and emerging
We see pictures of the couple eating out with Sijibomi Ogundele, minder of the construction concern, Sujimoto Construction Limited, which is said to have donated a “luxury accommodation and education” in Lagos to Jumoke and her kids – as part of its bumper Valentine’s gift for the lady of the moment. A top class finishing school (Poise Nigeria) in Lagos is also part of the plan. She now has a modelling contract, a hairstyling training opportunity, a female publicist helping to articulate her narrative free of charge… a lover’s day documentary on network television, appearances in international media… and the poor lucky girl is somewhat “out of this world” as the doting and adoring world pampers her with love, warmth and more schemes to improve her rollerco
Now, what does Sunday Orisagunna do in this case? If you can read this, it may be helpful to keep suggestions here under your pillow, and sleep over them. If someone has to read and interpret this to him, please be faithful to the spirit of these comments. Don’t help him into problem.
First, Sunday should fall on his knees beside Jumoke, and thank God for the day the little Osun girl accepted to marry him; and pray earnestly, that what he saw in her that informed his decision to marry her would continue to dominate her life even as her fortune swells and expands. Well, this is assuming that both share the same faith, and can therefore pray together. If they weren’t praying together or regularly before, now is the business end of your walk with God. The sort of favour coming the way of your wife is uncommon and extraordinary – so, your thanksgiving and supplication should assume supersonic dimension. Both of you should never assume it’s her “luck” or your “prayer” or one “Baba” somewhere that has made all these goodies come forth. No. It’s ONLY the Lord’s doing.
However, the major problem that will threaten your future happiness and enduring fortune is in your head… how you respond to irresponsible pressures or destructive antics, comments and actions of friends, family members and “elders” will largely determine how far both of you will endure. When it appears that your wife’s runaway success has “entered her head”… when she complains of fatigue and uneasiness at the sudden turmoil that the dictates and demands of her new work command… she will need your support, encouragement and prayer. It’s your duty to calm her when she’s frustrated; reassure her when she’s doubtful of her capacity to endure and progress; keep her feet on mother earth when she seems overwhelmed with the fantasies and temptations of her new environment.
Sunday (please, think of a middle name that speaks to the core of your birth and circumstance), remember that the fastest way you and Jumoke can drift apart is if you remain stagnant while allows herself to flow with the tides of goodness. Of course, you are still young, and must upgrade your situation… there are few opportunities in the construction business for a career advancement (in sliding-door installation). Get education…there are plenty options for internet-driven education and skill-development. Don’t ever feel belittled to ask for help or suggestions on how to improve yourself or craft. Your people have a saying, “Abere ona ko’ni shi na”…(he who seeks road directions will not miss h
Note that this fever will sooner or later disappear, and both of you will be left to make a meat or mess of this new life. Do your part in a manner that God will be glorified and men will be inspired – so that more Jumoke’s and Sunday’s will also have a chance.
Both of you should prove God true in your life by committing to heart and truly practising His commandments and precepts… such that when both of you are on the same page, you can’t hardly go wrong. Do not let your lives be like 90% of lottery winners who end up more miserable and poorer than before the million dollar jackpots land on them.
Welcome to prosperity and Nigerian showbusiness… your greatest challenges are now ahead of you both – stay grounded. All the best.
How was your Valentine’s day?!
