KUSHORO RIPS INTO PIRATES, GOVT: ‘PIRACY IS BIGGER THAN NOLLYWOOD!”
Top Nigerian movie entrepreneur and marketer, Chief Rotimi Aina Kushoro lambasted the nefarious activities of pirates as they appeared to wield huge criminal influence over Nollywood products virtually unchallenged, and the apparent indecisiveness of the federal government in curbing this long-standing economic sabotage.
In an interview on FAJ-ALIVE, a talkshow on Lagos Weekend Television, monitored in Lagos last Sunday, August 7, 2016, the veteran Nollywood insider bared his colleagues’ frustrations:
“You know there are areas in Alaba (International market) where these pirates operate…if you want to raid that place, even with police…if you’re lucky to be alive to enter the place, I can assure you that you won’t be lucky to come out alive!
“I told them about three years ago when they brought the issue of Jonathan’s 3billions. ..I said even if they bring 100 billion naira, and don’t sort out the piracy problem, it’s like using bucket to pour water into the lagoon… because the industry called Piracy is bigger than the industry called Nollywood!
“Firstly, the President who is the chief security officer… must be able to make a pronouncement on national television…that piracy is outlawed in this country…and that any one found with even a copy of pirated work…let the law take its course. Secondly, he must be able to make other government functionaries… to radiate around the word ‘No Piracy’. It’s not just by mouth…let us see that people are being jailed for piracy…”
