In anticipation of a likely arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Angela, wife of oil magnate, Jide Omokore, currently standing trial over multi billion dollar oil fraud has absconded to a European country believed to be Switzerland.
Coincidentally, Switzerland is reported to be the hiding place of Kola Aluko, a business associate of Omokore.
Angela, a former top shot at Zenith and Access Banks reportedly left the country late last year following her husband’s arraignment at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The University of Benin-trained former banker, according to sources, is said to be in the know of her husband’s several business dealings and would have been of great help in assisting the EFCC in its investigations.
Omokore, alongside Aluko, were two of the few businessmen that made a huge fortune in the oil sector while Diezani Alison Madueke called the shots at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
One of the witnesses lined up by the EFCC to testify against Omokore is Andrew Yakubu, a former GMD of the NNPC whose house in Kaduna was raided by operatives of the anti graft agency during which a whopping sum of $9.8m and &74,000 were discovered.
Sources disclosed that there were plans by the EFCC to arrest Angela, who is alleged to have helped her husband in stashing some of his funds in both local and foreign banks.
“Angela is a smart and well connected former banker. There is simply no way she won’t have some information on her husband’s business dealings. To avoid arrest, she had to leave the country.”
