Anxiety Over Mark, Akume’s Whereabouts
BY SOLA SADIQ
The long absence of two Senators from Benue State, David Mark and George Akume, at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly has become a subject of speculation in the last few months.
While Mark has not been a regular face at the Senate plenary since June 2015 following the expiration of his tenure as Senate President, only making cameo appearances once in a while; Akume’s absence only became noticeable since late last year.
Unconfirmed speculations have it that the two lawmakers’ absence may not unconnected to medical challenges, with Mark reportedly battling a “serious eye” defect which necessitates his constant trips to Israel to see his doctors.
