ACCUSATIONS DOG DAVIDO’S SNUB OF “FESTIVAL OF ÏNDIA” CONCERT
“He took 7m & didn’t show up” – Insiders …
“We’ve refunded the 5m!” – Kamal, star’s manager

Several media outlets have reported events of the last Festival of India spectacle held inside Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, on Saturday, August 13, 2016. One of the major thumbs-down of the day was the unexpected and yet unexplained absence of young music star, Davido at the concert section, unlike many other artistes billed to perform. Words started trending online days after that Davido allegedly conned the Bolaji Rosiji-led organising committee of 7m (sums like 4m and 5m have also been mentioned); while others lambasted the organisers for deliberately misleading the public to believe the billionaire’s son was on the bill. Both sides have spoken. Yet smoke remains in the air.
Akeem Lasisi of The Punch yesterday (August 19) revealed in a report entitled ‘Davido in N7m concert fee controversy’:
“Our correspondent spoke with the organisers who stressed that Davido was indeed invited. The chief organiser, Rosiji, also confirmed this. Although he said it was premature to say much on the development, other vital sources noted that the contract between the Festival of India and the artiste could run into N7m.
“It was gathered that Davido informed them on Friday night, a day to the event, that he was indisposed.
“It was further gathered on Thursday (August 18) night that the organisers have accordingly communicated Davido’s lawyers, as they hope to get a refund of the fee said to have been paid.
“Efforts by our correspondent to speak with the artiste or his manager did not yield fruits.”
However TREASURE was luckier. A top member of Davido’s management, Kamal Ajiboye reached out to our source after several unsuccessful attempts. Here, verbatim, is the telephone chat:
“Treasure: There were allegations that Davido did not attend the Indian Music Festival organised by Mr. Bolaji Rosiji. Why did he not attend?
Kamal : Yeah…he was unable to.
Treasure: Is that your answer? He was just unable to attend?
Kamal : Yes.
Treasure: Was it true about the four million naira? That he did not refund it in spite of the fact that he didn’t perform?
Kamal: The money was actually five million… but the money has been refunded even before the show.”
While the public may be confused about what is true or make-believe in this latest Davido drama, observers are confident that time will reveal the lying party.
