Abuses Have Taken Me From Penury To Prominence – Bakare
On Sunday, March 26, 2017, Pastor Babatunde Bakare declared emphatically on FAJ-Alive his views on President Buhari, State of the nation, governance, Christian values and other salient issues. Here are few excerpts in the first verbatim report of the 45-minute interview.
My satisfaction comes from the fact that gradually that a new Nigerian nation from the ruble of old Nigeria. That excites me, and that gives me fulfillment – that’s all.
On Negative Comments on Social Media:
I’ve never for once regretted any stand I took, any comments I make because I think before I speak. Honestly, all those abuses and false accusations are nothing but water behind the duck. I don’t even feel them. People bring it to my attention. I remember a long time ago, my wife would refuse to read newspapers. And all my sons and daughters had Google alerts. Any comments or stories that had my name, they were eager to see it.
Why Things Dont Affect Him:
After someone close said something that hurt and almost left (me) in tears… I was ruminating the issue when God said, “I am the door”. And I was like “I know you are the door”. And He asked me, “Who are you?” Okay, I said “I am the son of the door”. He said, “No, you are the doormat”. Anybody that wants to get to the door will pass through the doormat.
So since I know my position as the doormat, as long as the people get to the door and enter. It doesn’t matter what they do to me. Let them just enter first, then they would know that I did not send myself… that someone sent me. Then that’s it. It doesn’t affect me at all. And my mother’s name is Ebudola (Abuse has transformed to wealth). Ha-ha-ha! So all those abuses… have taken me from almost penury to prominence!
On Financial Reporting Code:
…. In any event, who wants to stay in one office permanently for the rest of your life? Jesus stayed for three and half years and left. You want me to die in office? No. Before Jesus went to the cross, he said “I’ve finished the work you have given me”. He did not say “It is finished” until the cross. But he said, “I have finished”. What has he finished? He has reproduced himself in others.
I want to see other people that I’ve raised and that God has allowed me, enabled me to influence… to rise up and do better than I’ve done in my life like David saw his own son upon his throne. I don’t like to say it but this is the only way I can express myself: ‘Office ni o reyin akowe (the office will always outlast the office clerk) whether you like it or not’….
