Forex: CBN Directors, Bank CEOs Put On Surveillance
Following widespread reports that top directors at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and some CEOs of banks are allegedly involved in illegal forex deals, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly placed the affected officials under close surveillance.
A security source familiar with the discreet operation, disclosed to Treasure that the federal government has resolved to take the bull by the horn by cracking down on the ‘powerful cabal’ feeding fat in the forex market to the detriment of the country’s economic wellbeing.
While declining to reveal how far the DSS and EFCC have gone in its investigation, the source however admitted that many topshots in CBN and bank chiefs have become jittery in the last few days over what fate awaits them.
Our source added: “Some directors in CBN are richer than many states put together. Over the years, they have manipulated the forex market to the country’s disadvantage. Security and anti-graft agencies have placed these people on surveillance and very soon, Nigerians would be briefed about the outcome.”
