Kwara 2019: Lafiagi Set To Join Gov Race
By Sola SADIQ
Twenty four years after he left the Kwara government house as governor, Mohammed Shaaba Lafiagi, the lawmaker representing Kwara North in the Senate is set to reclaim the plum seat come 2019.
The second term lawmaker joins the growing number of aspirants reportedly jostling to succeed Gov Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Sources in the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in the North Central state disclosed that about six close political associates of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the APC leader in the state have begun underground moves to secure the APC governorship ticket in 2019.
They include two members of the House of Representatives, Zakari Muhammed and Abdullahi Kannike; Ali Ahmad, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and a former Chairman of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Abubakar Baraje, to mention a few.
It is, however, not clear which zone would produce the next governor, with words rife that Saraki is disposed to Kwara North where Lafiagi and Baraje hail from.
