Treasure Man of The Year: Lagos Gov., Ambode Wins!
By The Editor
Who are we to give personality awards?
The first instinctive answer to that query is: “Why Not!!”
However, at Treasure we derive our audacity from the fragrance of our vision statement: “Treasure is not just in the business of publishing; we want to satisfy the desire of Nigerian people for quality news, responsible reporting, enhanced lifestyles, and access to helpful self-improvement tips… among other progressive ideas.”
We are not too quick to praise excellent service or lifestyle choices; nor sluggish in condemning atrocious practices or ambivalent hypocrisy.
We cherish hard work, creativity, integrity and pragmatic intelligence.
Therefore, we are proud to announce the first Treasure (Online) Man and Woman of the year, 2016!
With open mind and charitable spirit, we invite you to join us in celebrating our most outstanding personalities of 2016!!
AKINWUNMI AMBODE: TREASURE MAN OF THE YEAR (2016)
The 53-year old governor of Lagos State is not loud, though his achievements in the past 12 months boom his name and administration to stratospheric regions!
In different scales of objective observation, Mr. Ambode has applied himself to the tenets and promise of participatory democracy. With a good team of subordinates and motivated civil service, the Epe indigene basically used 2016 to mesmerize the sensibilities of not just his constituents in Lagos, but he has inflamed the imagination of the entire nation to the possibilities inherent in a committed and visionary political leadership.
Service delivery and activation in roads, health care, public communication, agriculture, security, transportation, youth synergies, economic stimulation, traffic congestion, etc, have been satisfactory, and sometimes excellent.
With apparent systematic precision, his forays into heritage renaissance (exposition of tourism, arts and culture) and entertainment have kept Lagosians on their hardworking toes, and millions glued to late night television.
What is the beauty of democracy? Of civilian administration, if not to directly or indirectly impact the lives of the teeming majority of its citizenry?
We make bold to insist that in 2016, there is hardly any political leader with executive powers over an electoral space with a better performance statistics and widespread positive validation from his or her own compatriots virtually chanting “you have done well”!
Of course, some well-meaning critics may also have a litany of missed opportunities or inactions wherein the governor should have acted more prudently or with more sensitivity. However, we elected to choose the “half-filled cup” as our window of intervention.
The former Accountant-General of Lagos has not only directly impacted on several millions of Lagos inhabitants through his numerous people-centric activities and commerce-friendly policies, he has also vicariously impacted tens of millions of Nigerians whose governors are challenged or inspired by Ambode’s activism to do more, to go the extra mile, for their own states.
It is therefore no surprise when in September, 2016, the well-regarded UK-based African Leadership Magazine (via its online poll on ‘Good Governance in Nigeria”) decorated Mr. Ambode as the winner of its top 5 “Best Performing Governors” – beating his main challenger (River State’s Mr. Nyesom Wike) by eight point margin!
Step forward and take your Gold Card with your name emblazoned on it – underneath which is thus written: “It’s Time To Rest NOT On Your Oars”!
It is our distinguished pleasure to celebrate Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode as the 2016 Treasure Man of the Year!
